Performance & Handling
The 2012 Ford F-150 comes available in nine different trim offerings, each with different engine and drivetrain options. Trims for the 2012 F-150 consist of the XL, STX, XLT, FX2/FX4 (4x2 and 4x4 respectively), Lariat, King Ranch, SVT Raptor, Platinum and Harley-Davidson.
There are four different engine options for the 2012 F-150. The entry-level engine for 2012 is a 3.7L V6 engine that produces 302 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque (4x2: 17 city/23 hwy/19 combined mpg, 4x4: 16 city/21 hwy/18 combined mpg). Following that comes a 3.5L V6 engine with EcoBoost that generates 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque (mpg available for 2011 model only). The upgraded 5.0L V8 engine creates 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque (4x2: 15 city/21 hwy/17 combined mpg, 4x4: 14 city/19 hwy/16 combined mpg), and the heavy duty 6.2L V8 engine offers an impressive 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet or torque (4x2: 13 city/18 hwy/ 14 combined mpg).
All engines come paired with an electronic six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, and all trims come available in 4x2 or 4x4 drive, except the SVT Raptor, which comes standard with 4x4. | |

Standard Features & Options
The first thing to note when breaking down options for the 2012 F-150 is the sheer amount of customization available. Amid the nine trim levels-which generally build upon each other in the features department-are different box options and package upgrades. In addition to a trim selection, most consumers will be offered a choice of cab design and box size for most models. Cab designs include the regular cab, the extended SuperCab with clamshell doors and the premium SuperCrew cab with a second set of front-hinged doors and more rear legroom.
Box options consist of 8-, 6.5- and 5.5-foot builds. The catch here is that only certain trims and cab builds can be paired with specific box sizes (generally, larger cabs are paired with shorter boxes). Regular cab models come with 6.5- and 8-foot box options. SuperCab models offer 6.5- and 8-foot box options as well. SuperCrew models offer either the 6.5- or 5.5-foot bed, and the SVT Raptor comes with the 5.5-foot bed, regardless of cab selection (SuperCab and SuperCrew available).
Standard features for the F-150 begin with Hill Start Assist, power rack-and-pinion steering, trailer tow with 4-pin connector, air conditioning, display center, front dome lights, front-door map pockets, gauges (for fuel, oil pressure and engine coolant temperature), tilt steering column, a cargo box lamp, cargo box tie-downs, removable tailgate with key lock and tailgate assist, front and rear stone guards, and tow hooks (4x4 only). The base XL trim offers options of all three cab designs (Regular, SuperCab and SuperCrew), as well as choice of box size, and also includes manual seat adjustment, AM/FM stereo with clock, manual climate control, manual locks and windows (both automatic with SuperCrew), and Remote Keyless Entry solely for the SuperCrew build.
The STX trim builds on the XL but only offers Regular and SuperCab options. Upgrades include cloth seating, manual driver lumbar support, aluminum wheels, CD player, audio input jack, information display with external temperature, Cruise Control, power locks and windows, and Remote Keyless Entry. The XLT comes available in all cab styles and adds an autolamp, compass, fading interior lights, fog lamps, and a chrome grille. The FX2/FX4 (4x2 and 4x4 respectively) comes in either SuperCab or SuperCrew and adds the Trailer Tow Package, larger 18-inch wheels, a six-way power driver seat, manual lumbar support for the passenger seat, interior trim upgrades, Ford SYNC, SiriusXM Satellite Radio with 6-month trial subscription, a 4.2-inch LCD screen and trip computer, an auto-dimming mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted SYNC controls, and exterior trim upgrades.
The Lariat also builds off the XLT and offers 10-way power heated driver and passenger seats, leather trim, SiriusXM Radio, dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, woodgrain interior accents, and more exterior trim upgrades. Following the Lariat, each subsequent trim builds off of it, offering trim-exclusive customizations, trims and badging. The notably unique SVT Raptor comes suitably equipped for off-road enthusiasts. | |

Safety Features
The 2012 Ford F-150 comes standard with a wide array of standard safety features, ranging from usual features like airbags and seatbelts to more advanced security and sensing features.
